Means that hell is our default!
Does Gandhi drink beer?
“God has no religion.”Mahatma Gandhi
From what I know about Mathama Gandhi, he was totally against any type of alcoholic beverage. And I don’t mean any disrespect to Gandhi at all. He was a great man! This has been a joke between me and my wife for years – not about Gandhi, but the Christian religion. Gandhi wasn’t a Christian and according to Christian doctrine, he’s going to hell along with two-thirds of the world’s population (and all of mankind before Jesus came to earth), just as soon as Jesus comes back to judge us all. It’s gonna be crowded down there! Anyway, I’m pretty certain that I’m going to hell just for writing this haiku. To continue the joke, I tell my wife, “I wonder if Gandhi drinks dark beer so that I could have a beer with him and maybe have a philosophical discussion about nonviolence, or something.”

Only a few will
Find the narrow path to life
Blisters on my feet
Go in through the narrow gate. The gate that leads to destruction is broad and the road wide, so many people enter through it. But the gate that leads to life is narrow and the road difficult, so few people find it.Matthew 7:13-14 CEB
The “narrow gate” that Jesus speaks of in Matthew 7:13-14 has always been a mystery to me. He says that only a “few” will find it. There are all sorts of commentary from people who will basically say that he didn’t really mean what he said. But, what if Jesus really meant what he said? After all, the Bible says that we may be chosen, that we must believe, we’ve got to follow a slew of commands, etc. Then when we think that we’ve done enough, believed enough, prayed, and worshipped enough, he’s going to come back and judge us! I’m beginning to believe that Jesus meant what he said: that only a few make it to the narrow gate that leads us through the myriad of paths to eternal life.

I asked God one time
If he could help me believe…
I hate cold coffee
Then he brought them outside and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”Acts 16:30-31 NRSV
Believing in Jesus is the key to the Christian religion. There are tons of Bible verses that say “if you believe” you’ll have eternal life, prayers will be answered, and so on. Now I can’t seem to find any that tell you “how to believe.” The Apostle Thomas got direct proof from Jesus that he was the Savior. But, I wasn’t there with Thomas and I want the same kind of proof. Praying doesn’t work unless you believe (Matthew 21:22). You’re not saved (given salvation) unless you believe (Acts 16:30-31). So, how does one believe? If someone told me that my wife was sleeping with another man, I wouldn’t just believe them.

“Thank you, Lord, for saving me!”
He creates evil
Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.Jeremiah 23:19 KJV
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.Isaiah 45:7 KJV
Deadly tornadoes ripped through four states over the weekend (12/2021) and killed unknown numbers of people. A woman captured on the news standing in front of her demolished house threw her arms up in the air and praised God for saving her life. I’m always astonished at how we give God credit for what we perceive to be good, but, say nothing about why God might have created the disaster in the first place. We just don’t give him enough credit!

Hope heaven is fun
Eternity is forever
Can I wear flip flops
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.Psalms 23:6 KJV
Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die…1 Corinthians 15:54 NLT
Have you ever wondered what we’re going to do in heaven, assuming that we get there? Surely it’s not just singing and praising God 24 hours a day and forever, is it? The Apostle Paul says that we’ll have “bodies that have been transformed into bodies that will never die.” I’m hoping that I can bring my favorite flip-flops so that I can at least be comfortable in my new body. Maybe a couple of my comfy t-shirts would be nice, too.

God so loved the world
That he killed his only son
And created hell
– John 3:16, Matthew 7:13-14
